The wrapping of meat or other foods in dough dates back to the Classical Greek or Roman eras. However, sausage rolls in the modern sense of meat surrounded by rolled pastry appear to have been conceived at the beginning of the 19th century in France. South Africans have perfected this unique treat and enjoy it with peach chutney to make it even more special.

Fresh & frozen products require special shipping boxes, 2-day UPS shipping, and at least 6 pounds of ice bricks. Due to the cost of the special boxes, ice bricks, 2 day shipping we charge a $45 flat rate fee. If you live in a hot area, we recommend you upgrade to overnight shipping. We are not in control of UPS shipping so cannot guarantee freshness.

Sausage Roll & Pie Cooking Instructions

  • Note: Sausage roll filling is raw meat; pie filling is cooked meat.
  • Prick the pie with a fork to release steam while cooking.
  • Remove the sausage roll/Pie from its packaging and any parchment paper, if applicable.
  • If using from frozen, place the roll/pie on a lined baking tray.
  • Whisk an egg to make an egg wash and brush it over the rolls/pie for a golden finish.
  • Bake at 385°F for approximately 30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
  • For serving rolls, cut into 1-inch slices for ideal finger food.
  • Enjoy warm for the best flavor and texture!
